What we look for

These pages use the same meta description (the summary search engines may show under the title) as another crawled page. Pages kept out of search, or that name another page as the one to show, are left out.

Why it matters

Searchers see the same summary under different results, and search engines are more likely to replace a repeated description with text of their own choosing.

How to fix

Write a description in the CMS or page template that sums up each page on its own. If you cannot write them all, remove the shared one, and search engines will take text from the page instead.

Seen in a real crawl

From a crawl of Kestrel Bay Digital (the canonical-variants fixture), a test site from Raptor’s fixture suite.

Where you’ll see it

The id is stable, and every surface uses it, so it’s the thing to search for or hand to an agent.

Terminal
