Tracking tags in address

What we look for

Raptor crawled these addresses with UTM tags in them (settings after the ? that start with utm_ and label where a visit came from in analytics).

Why it matters

UTM tags belong on links in emails and ads, and there they need no change. On links between your own pages, they make extra addresses for the same page and overwrite where the visit really came from.

How to fix

Remove UTM tags from links between your own pages, in the CMS or page template. Keep them on links in emails, ads and social posts.

Where you’ll see it

The id is stable, and every surface uses it, so it’s the thing to search for or hand to an agent.

Terminal
When it is one of the five findings under Fix first, raptor crawl prints the id under it.
Check: url.ga_tracking_params
crawl.json and the CSV
The crawl JSON names the finding by this id, and so do the CSV and raptor_query.
"check_id": "url.ga_tracking_params"
The HTML report
This link opens the finding in the report, and each finding shows its id.
crawl.html#finding=url.ga_tracking_params
MCP
raptor_findings with this check_id returns the finding in full, with a fix brief ready to paste into a task. If it didn’t fire, it says why.
