What we look for

These pages score below 30 on the Flesch reading-ease scale (0 to 100, worked out from sentence and word length, where higher is easier), but not low enough to count as very hard.

Why it matters

Text in this range suits specialist readers, but a general audience may find it slow going.

How to fix

Shorten long sentences and swap long words for everyday ones where your readers are not specialists, in the CMS where the page text is written.

What it cannot know

The score is built for English prose. Other languages, lists and technical terms can lower it without the page being hard for its readers.

Where you’ll see it

The id is stable, and every surface uses it, so it’s the thing to search for or hand to an agent.
